Fresh off the traction of their recent single and upcoming album title track "High Risk", the band Fairshake have released their newest single "Another Round", crafting angsty post-grunge/emo/punk messaging within the confines of this 4:31 emotional roller coaster of a track.

Comprised of core members Tucker Harding (guitar, vocals) Shayne Goss (guitar, vocals) and produced in conjunction with  Jeremy Nichols and Ben Cato, the band present a great sound reminiscent of post-grunge acts like Garbage, Hole, or The Donnas among other semblances.

“...Another Round is a song of comfort in the realization that you do not have to be a victim and can take your power back...." - Shayne Goss

The full-length album High Risk is slated for release in its entirety in April.

The experimental alt pop/punk/post-hardcore group Audio Decoy today released the latest single "Never Wanted To Lose". Written from the perspective of how it can be hard it can be to move past the sunken cost fallacy in relationships, the song's chorus inevitably resonates with lines such as "angles and shadows can't obscure the reasons I doubted the so-called truth, pitting my spirits up against everything I never wanted to lose".

Don't lose out on listening to this this new upbeat heavy rock track, available everywhere!

The London rock group The Bigger Picture have released their upbeat, synth and guitar-heavy track "Empires" as the last single off their new EP A Ghost & A Wish. The band recently played live again at Fiddler's Elbow with acts including Sonic Property and Caper, and are excited to finally release their new EP this weekend with producer Matteo Galesi (Frank Mada, Omahrose, Tarantola, etc).

The single "Empires" follows "Bullets Little Thoughts" and continues the band's trajectory towards a very approachable, energetic rock sound with massive appeal.  The track opens with an arpeggiated synth akin to perhaps the intro to the Stranger Things TV show, then drops into a flurry of all instruments in their full glory led by soaring guitar leads.

The chorus really exemplifies the dueling vocalists synergy with soaring, sing-a-long harmonies like "teach me how to feel alive". Overall, "Empires" has great dynamic range with softer passages allowing the synth production to really shine, but balances this with the uplifting chorus hooks and powerful guitar riffs.

The band also worked with Bohemian Basterds to produce a music video for the single which fans of alternative/arena rock should check out!

Sinner's Rise Drops New Cheeky Single "Suzuka"

Coming off the success of the prior single "Eden", Sinner's Rise continue their onslaught with the newest single and lyric video for "Suzuka"

Don't miss your chance to check out this straight banger below and on our Core Rock Bangers playlist via Spotify!

A tongue-in-cheek nod to popular mainstream heavy acts like Babymetal/Nickelback with a mass appeal to larger audiences, "Suzuka" touches on the struggles to reach success as a heavy music artist while driving the listener through catchy one-liners during hooks like "while you taste success I've been chasing it". At the end however, we realize the irony behind the song as it turns on itself with it's final, gutteral utterances: "dance to this".

Certainly worthy of a dance in the moshpits for January.

Norfolk, Virginia native James Arellano today releases his debut single music video "Memory" available now on YouTube and all major music streaming services!

"Acoustic folk-pop rising into pure pop warmth unites with melancholic, characterful vocals as James Arellano digs deep into heartache [...] Memory feels like a partly familiar, well-written pop song on first listen. There’s a recognizable depth of tone to James’ vocal though, and it soon becomes clear that there’s a fairly unique nature to his writing style, too."

Following up on the success of their single "Entropy" and multi-country tour in support of their 2020 full-length "Death Electronica", the Nottingham, UK-based  duo Bone Cult today release their latest single "Premature Burial". The track comes along with a killer music video featuring copies of bodies with the duo's signature masks, floating in what could be described as an endless zero-gravity space chamber of countless panels.
Mixed at Labyrinth Studios in Nottingham, "Premature Burial" propels the band into a spacier, ambient territory. Bone Cult incorporate their signature blend of synthetic and organic musical elements on this song, backed by time-twisting dirty drum breaks and  crooning objective, apathetic lyrics like "I take no pleasure in your sacrifice" or "you can't taste the air you breathe".

Fans of "White Pony"-era Deftones or Prodigy with more progressive-minded rock and electronic tastes will find solace in the immersion of this Bone Cult track's delightfully haunting visual and auditory escape.

Leopard Rays Return For "Curtain Call" Single

Fresh off the momentum of their recent single "Carried Away", the English alt-rock group Leopard Rays from Hartlepool have upped the ante with their latest banger "Curtain Call".

With their signature big indie rock tone, Leopard Rays open the track with driving quarter note percussion grooves surrounded by bass and guitars. The strings are built from skillfully chosen chords, which perhaps harken to some midwest-emo rock influences a la Jimmy Eat World, Silversun Pickups or similar. The band then propels the listener sideways into a bright, refreshing twist as the lead melodic guitar  and vocals enter after a few bars.

The high-gain lead guitar tastefully complements the verse vocals throughout the song and gives an overall bright, major key energy. The vocals similarly have a vintage UK sound to them, reminiscent of fine acts such as The Wombats or Franz Ferdinand among many others.

All of this paves the way towards the excellent sing-a-long anthem of a chorus,  informing "...you can never switch it up/and it drives you up the wall...".

"Curtain Call" traverses a great instrumental bridge-interlude lasting for nearly a minute, then gives us one last chance to catch a breath before dispatching us with the indelible, catchy chorus in its own "curtain call".

Solid production and great songwriting all around. As the title might imply, this song is worthy of a second appearance in any indie rock playlists.

Horse Doctor Releases New Single PLAYA

Following up on their full-length self-titled debut, the Montreal based outfit Horse Doctor bring us their latest single "Playa" today.

Clocking in at sub-three minutes, "Playa" brings in tasteful elements of early 2000s era progressive/post-hardcore revival. Fans of classic groups such as Rival Schools, At The Drive-In, Sparta, and Radiohead will certainly turn their heads at this very relatable rock tune.

Although recorded remotely, this track exemplifies a nice reverbing overall sound that makes the mix sound huge. Nice transitions of smacking snare drums leading into rolls are backed by solid bass and dueling guitar leads coming together. All of this is behind a very angst-driven vocal performance, reminiscent of performers like Thom Yorke or Jim Ward among others.

Short and sweet, this track is a brighter addition to the Horse Doctor repertoire, and certainly one to give a listen.

False Highs - The Hand That Feeds You (Album Review)

This latest release from the Swedish hardcore trio False Highs transports us to their hometown of Gävle, with top notch production and a dark, ambient hardcore presence captured from within the walls of The Overlook, an old 1891 sailor's church, by mixing/mastering engineer William Blackmon.

From the onset, "The Blues" sets the stage with a choir of dissonant feedback from the guitar amps,  building up to the shattering drum entrance of "Ghost of Burden". This is where the album really opens up to its fruits, as we are brought into a heavy chord anthem and the opening powerful screamed vocals "I hold my breath to see if I'm alive". Throughout the song, we are treated with a beautiful combination of dissonant chords, with soaring leads above the solid driving bass and drum foundation. "Pretender" continues the onslaught, opening with an epic drum roll, and transitioning into atmospheric, melodic hardcore guitar riffing. The emotive verses are bookended by intelligent and inspirational lyrics, such as "I won't let this be the end of me". The band then drops heavy with staccato rhythms during the bridge that are undeniably deep and follow up with a sludgy instrumental outro.

"Empty Walls" opts for a frantic minor key progression with crashing, aggressive drumming and bass. "Shiver", arguably the most dynamic song of the album, features tasteful reverse delay effects and demonstrates False Highs can also dial it back into cleaner passages. "A Tragedy Undone" is a slower, mostly instrumental piece which then turns sideways and delves into bone-crushing heavy chugging riff passages. The album concludes with "What's Truly Lost", an almost completely instrumental ambient outro track, save for crooning dirty vocals as the guitar trills take us beyond the steeples of The Overlook.

For fans of aggressive guitar-forward tones and dirty vocals with emotionally heavy subject matters, False Highs will hauntingly resonate and deliver on this album. Thoughtful songwriting, tasteful gain and a dark, ambient style propel Olle, Erik and Gustav's respective instruments and culminate in their unique sound on this solid melodic, yet dissonant, hardcore release.

New Single EDEN from Sinner's Rise Drops

10/29/2021

Back at it again with their single EDEN today, Sinner's Rise demonstrate their signature complex rhythmic bass & guitar lines lines. This is combined with soaring vocal lines,  incorporating twists and turns from the use of scales typically found in middle-eastern music. EDEN finishes off clean, that is, after a heavy vocal treatment on the bridge.

Check out this song on the fresh bangers playlist, and follow for new music coming soon!
